Litigation support for firms
E-filing, discovery organization and indexing, Bates, trial and deposition binders, cite-checking, record assembly — performed under the supervision of the retaining attorney.

Excellent legal work is built long before anything reaches a courtroom — in the record, the chronology, the exhibit index, the deadline nobody missed. We are interested in the professionals who build it. If you are an experienced paralegal who would rather be judged on the quality of a file than on hours at a desk, we would like to hear from you.
Before you send anything
LEGALWISE is an independent paralegal and case-preparation service based in New York, working nationwide. We are not a law firm and we do not practice law. We supply pro-rata paralegal capacity to law firms — that is the core of the business — and we run four other divisions with their own clients and their own standards.
Work is project-based rather than salaried. Engagements are defined in writing before they begin: what the deliverable is, what it pays, and when it is due.
E-filing, discovery organization and indexing, Bates, trial and deposition binders, cite-checking, record assembly — performed under the supervision of the retaining attorney.
Medicare and Medicaid provider enrollment, revalidation, change of ownership, state licensure and multi-state portfolio tracking for long-term care operators.
IESP documentation strategy, hearing record assembly and implementation follow-through for agencies, providers and families in New York.
Record assembly, chronologies and procedural orientation for individuals carrying their own consumer and civil matters.
Where the file ends up
Every index, every binder, every chronology eventually has to hold up in a room like this one — in front of someone who has never seen your draft before and will not give it a second read. That's the standard we hire to.
How engagements work
Freelance legal work has a reputation, and it is not always a good one. Here is how we intend to be different, stated plainly so you can hold us to it.
Not a list of everything you have ever touched. We would rather know that you can build a discovery index that survives a motion than that you once sat in on a deposition.
A scope, a deliverable, a deadline and a rate — agreed in writing before you start. No open-ended "see how it goes."
Within the deadline, when and where you work is your business. We do not monitor keystrokes and we do not hold status calls for the sake of status calls.
On the schedule set out in the engagement. If we ask you to produce work, that work is paid — there are no unpaid tests and no speculative "sample assignments."
For law-firm clients, substantive legal work is performed at the direction of and under the supervision of the retaining attorney. You will always know who is supervising and on what basis.
What we look for
Several years of meaningful paralegal or legal-support work. New York litigation or regulatory experience is particularly valued, but it is not a requirement for every engagement.
Strong research and drafting skills. Work that arrives finished and properly formatted, not work that arrives needing to be redone.
Experience preparing and managing litigation files, records, exhibits and court documents. Exceptional organization, and an instinct for the deadline that is about to be missed.
The discipline to follow workflows and supervision requirements, and sound judgment about the boundary between paralegal support and legal advice. This matters here more than most places.
The standard doesn't move
We are not building a roster of people who can complete tasks. We are building one where the file holds up to scrutiny regardless of who opens it next — a reviewing attorney, an IHO, a claims examiner. That is the bar every engagement here is held to.
Straight answers
No. Engagements are project-based independent work. You are not an employee, there is no exclusivity, and you are free to work with anyone else at the same time.
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Opportunities depend on current client requirements. We would rather tell you that now than have you rearrange your month on a promise we cannot keep.
No. The work is remote. Some engagements benefit from New York practice familiarity; many do not.
Your expression of interest is read and retained. If there is a fit with current or upcoming work, you will hear from us. If there is not, we will not string you along.
No. No unpaid trials, no speculative assignments, no "quick sample." If we ask for work product, it is paid.
A written confidentiality agreement is executed before any client file is shared with you, and client work product belongs to the client without exception.
Experience gets the file opened. Discipline gets it kept.
Expression of interest
This is not an application to a specific vacancy. It is an expression of interest that is read, retained and considered as requirements arise.
